Meet Van Allen Flores: New Instructor, New Classes & New Opportunities.

As stated in the previous entry: our mission is to bring martial arts to the masses. We make that mission a reality by creating opportunities. Those opportunities allow people see paths to self-improvement. Brooklyn, New York is our home. Bushwick and Bed-Stuy are our neighborhoods. And our goal is to strengthen the local community — literally and figuratively. This is why we have a new instructor, who brings with him the gift of more classes. Our new classes run from 7:45pm to 8:45pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Monday and Wednesday are our gi classes. Friday’s main class is a gi class, but Friday’s 7:45 to 8:45 fundamentals class is both gi and no gi.

Van Allen Flores has studied and practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for close to a decade. Like Alex, He is a black belt under the renowned Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. He was one of the head instructors at Vitor Shaolin’s Manhattan Academy, as well as at the sought after UFC Gym Soho. His experience, ethics, and dedication have now led him to Brooklyn, New York’s Masterskya.

Van is a true master of his craft and offers a passionate and thorough education in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has won medals in: the European Championships, New York Open, Boston Open, Abu Dhabi NYC Trials, and Grapplers Quest in the colored belts division. He has also won the Big Apple Open in the brown/black belt division. Van is also a creator — he is an avid YouTuber who has been documenting his journey in life and BJJ. Van is also a passionate family man. Indeed, Van isn’t always on the mats breaking necks and cashing checks… he also spends his time working at his brother-in-law’s restaurant Just BeClaws located in Jersey City — where Van lives. We are very fortunate to have Van and his dedication to jiu-jitsu at Masterskya.

We encourage you to take some time to enjoy Van’s work, and then come on by the workshop to enjoy Van’s training!
